American Airlines Resumes Flights to Nicaragua
By: Kayla Nielsen
I may or may not be crying tears of joy as I write this. After nearly THREE YEARS of ceasing flights to Nicaragua, American Airlines has officially started flying to Nicaragua again!
Let me tell you why this is a huge deal:
Drive Flight Costs Down
After checking out the numbers for myself, I can say that American Airlines typically offering a cheaper (and faster!) flight path than Avianca, Copa, and Aeromexico. Because a major airline like American is re-rentering back into the flight path, this will drive tickets down for ALL airlines.
This is HUGE, because ticket prices to Nicaragua have been outrageously high given the low supply. Airlines (cough cough Avianca) have spiked their prices to completely unreasonable amounts, knowing that they could simply because they were the only option people had.
More Flight Times
If you were like us and you were also flying back and forth to Nicaragua during the Pandemic, then you know that the flight times were pretty slim pickings. It started with just one flight a day from Miami, and has eventually worked it’s way up- but not by much.
Now that American Airlines AND Spirit Airlines are flying to Nicaragua, we’ll have a lot more flexibility with our travels days and times.
More Reliable Cancellation Policies
I think that all of our guests from last season have PTSD from flying with Avianca. And truth be told, so do we. Not only would they refuse entry to people “just because,” but they also wouldn’t issue flight credits or refunds.
Plus, if you’re familiar with flying Avianca, then you know their online system isn’t too thorough, which forces you to CALL to make changes or cancellations to your reservation. Calling usually means waiting on hold for at least an hour, and then possibly getting hung up on once you finally get through.
American Airlines has a more reliable cancellation policy, insurance, and customer service, which will be helpful for any alterations you need to make in your ticket.
Look, although we’re stoked American Airlines is flying to Nicaragua again, there’s still a few precautionary measures we’d like you to keep in mind when you’re booking with either American Airlines or Spirit Airlines.
American Is Notorious for Cancelling Flights
This is not only in relation to American Airlines flying to Nicaragua, this is for ALL of their routes. So, always buy your ticket with insurance, and buy at your own risk.
If you’re joining a retreat and know that you need to be there on a certain date, we suggest buying a ticket that allows you to arrive a few days in advance JUST IN CASE it’s cancelled, and you need to re-route. Don’t worry, if you’re retreating with us, you can just email us to book an extra few night stay.
Spirit Airlines is Budget for a Reason
Yes, usually Spirit has the cheapest flights. However, just know that you get what you pay for. Meaning, small seats, little leg room, paying for water, paying for seat preference, bags, etc.
Sometimes it appears to be the cheapest option at a glance, but once you include all the add-ons you need, it’s actually more expensive than American Airlines. Just make sure to double check this thoroughly before actually purchasing.
And if you want a bit more comfort and luxury with your travel, then know that American Airlines currently has the cheapest Business Class options to Nicaragua than any other airline we’ve seen so far.
We could not be happier with American Airlines flying to Nicaragua again, because that means we can finally welcome even more people to stay with us, without creating a huge hassle or cost for you with outrageous flight paths.
